Approach
Methods
Lindsey has found while working as a classroom teacher, and as a tutor, that when a student has a positive rapport and relationship with her, they are more willing to take risks and try challenging problems. She utilizes the student’s input and observations of their own learning process to help support what she builds as curriculum. Lindsey works to make a high reward, low risk environment for your student to build and grow their skills.
Varying Ability Levels
Lindsey believe that all students have the ability to become comfortable and proficient in math and reading skills. She knows that students have different approaches to learning, visualizing problems, and completing skills. Lindsey understands the developmental, social and emotional, and ability level challenges that can occur with students. By working with parents and students, she designs curriculum that engages students on their ability level, but challenges them to build their confidence in the skill.
Math Anxiety
Lindsey understands and empathizes with math anxiety, confidence, and hesitancy. With kindness, compassion, she works with your student to practice skills, push themselves, and grow their confidence in their math abilities. She also understands the joy and itch for math, and can help design and create math projects that help your student push themselves further and enrich their math learning, while building confidence in their skills.
Curriculum Design
Having spent 8 years experience building and designing curriculum related to Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, Lindsey believes that students are more likely to engage in material that interests them, and connects to real world concepts. Lindsey helps students build up their skill knowledge with practice, and differing approaches to the skills, while also connecting these skills to real world authentic problems that engage students in areas of their interests.
In order to build a strong foundation and a solid understanding of number sense, Lindsey will work with students to try multiple approaches to tackling a problem, and learn different strategies that the student can choose which strategy and method they like best.
